Brief History

The University of Ibadan established the Directorate of Quality Assurance(DQA), as its apex quality management outfit with Professor O.A. Itiola as its pioneer director(2011-2013). The current Director is Professor O.A. Agbede, FAS(2013- date)

Policy and strategy

Quality Assurance at UI comprises both internal quality assurance, which relates to internal mechanisms for meeting all the standards that apply globally to a higher educational institution, and external quality assurance, which relates to external accreditation, assessment or audit. It therefore represents all the policies, processes and activities that the university utilises to assure all stakeholders that its provisions, products and services are of the highest standard. To this end, the university is committed to the implementation of diverse quality management initiatives, including quality control, quality enhancement, quality audit, continual capacity building and resource mobilisation for work on quality, with the objective of fostering and sustaining a culture of quality among staff and students.

Functions

The DQA coordinates the implementation of the university's quality assurance policy and strategy on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. Its other functions include:

  1. Mainstreaming quality management into the institution's functions, activities and processes
  2. Providing counselling, training and support to the institution's units in developing and implementing quality assurance mechanisms
  3. Preparing and circulating quality evaluation manuals
  4. Organising and coordinating the institution's self evaluation exercises of thenstitution's units
  5. Validating the self evaluation exercises of the institution
